Honeymooning in Japan 9 nights. Would love feedback on our route.

Plan so far:

• Tokyo (Asakusa) — 3 nights
• Kobe/Kansai — 5 nights (use as base for day trips to Kyoto/or other places)
• Back to Tokyo — 1 night

Vibe: Food-focused, love wandering old-town neighborhoods with good nightlife to eat well. Then Into castles, shrines, temples and mountains/nature.

Wishlist : kaiseki, sake tasting, wagyu, cooking class, tea ceremony, samurai experience, sumo, great viewpoints, car museum/viewing experience (husband’s pick). Birthday falls during the trip — open to something special that day. Fine with moderate crowds, but want to avoid 1hr+ waits.

Is Kobe a good pick for our second base city (1st is Tokyo)? Should we consider someplace else?
