best steelcase chair 2026 for long hours at a pc setup?

i’ve been slowly upgrading my setup over the last year and realized the weakest part by far is still my chair. i spend way too many hours at my desk between gaming, work, and just being online in general, and my back is definitely starting to complain about it now.

i keep seeing steelcase chairs recommended everywhere, especially the leap and gesture, but once i started looking at prices i realized this rabbit hole gets expensive fast. i’m trying to stay somewhere around the $500 to $1200 range depending on whether buying refurbished is actually worth the risk or not.

what’s confusing me is how divided people seem once you get past the hype. some say the leap is the most comfortable long term, others swear the gesture is better for pc setups and arm positioning, and then there are people saying herman miller still clears steelcase completely. after a while every review starts sounding like an ad lol.

for people here who actually use steelcase chairs daily at their setup, which model ended up being worth it for you? and if you bought refurbished, did it still feel premium long term or did you regret not buying new?
