This is part 5 of my reviewing of the HADES album posts!
Below, I will comment a link to my first post, where you will see information about me and my favourite songs, as well as my review of the first song in the album; 'GARBAGE'. Under that, I will link the third post - my latest - where you will see my opinions of the fourth song in the album: 'WHITE BOY WITH A GUN'.
Apologies for my late post, as i've been busy in my real life.

DISNEY PRINCESS
My Overall Rating: 15/20
4/5 {Melody/Sound} - * *I do quite like the melody and sound to this song. I quite enjoy the instrumental directly after the chorus, that repeats between the choruses and verses.
I also quite like what Meanie did with her voice in the different ways throughout this song; From the effect in the introduction, to the slight echo in the verses. From the high and low notes in every place they were put in to the loud, almost overcompensating joy/elation projected into her vocals in the chorus.
4/5 {Lyricism and Mood} - I adore the lyricism in this song. I interpret it to be a young girl, singing about being both groomed by and soon becoming taken by the temptation of Hollywood and the big industries, known for signing young children and making money off of their suffering and success. This song reminds me of a dusty pink; A colour representing innocence, tainted by darkness.
The mentioning of sleeping with older men, drug use, and even the simple phrase "Disney Princess" leads me to believe that this is a girl who got into this industry young. The mention of her wanting to kill the people in power leads me to believe that while she may be getting what she wants out of this, ("C'mon, worship me, I'm perfect"), she knows deep down that this isn't right and she is hurting.
I do question the outro to the song; The sudden crash as the music ended followed by the haunting music and the sound of, possibly, crunching/tearing flesh? It makes me think that Circle got in trouble for this song, and the last moments then fading into an angry and vengeful Circle in the sixth song, "GRUDGES", makes me wonder what they did to Circle as punishment for 'Disney Princess'... But more on that in the next part!
2/5 {Emotional Resonance} - This song, I cannot resonate with, of course. I can in the sense of feeling almost pressured to be perfect for someone/people; Parents and family, a partner or, even, to be the greatest friend.
I was privileged enough to have been chosen to model before, in my real life, but I was lucky enough to have also been well protected by my mother, to have had a good man as the director, to have had a welcoming and kind supporting group bringing the shoots to life, and to have known (due to disgusting cucumber and lemon water) that I didn't want to pursue modelling as I got older.
Still, I do think that the ideas I mentioned at first, as well as escapism in drugs, partying and drink or the feeling of having lost your innocence too early can be felt by a vast amount of people, everywhere, and this song works, in part, due to that.
This song's message and lyrics can easily be translated into other scenarios and made to fit other people's stories. I love that.
4/5 {Enjoyment} - I enjoyed this song and the process of breaking it down to discover my thoughts and feelings about both its individual pieces and as a whole. However, strangely enough, whilst I do consider this song Peak Melanie, I actually won't be downloading it to listen to, myself!
A bit weird, yes, but this song ranked so highly not so much due to personal taste, (This isn't actually my kind of music. I actually didn't like this song at all upon my first listen.), but because this song feels very "Melanie Martinez" to me. What I mean by that, is that it does give me similar feelings to how I felt upon first discovering Melanie years ago; Through her song, 'Dollhouse".
Melanie** **is known for writing songs that tell stories, as well as her dark, complex and overly honest lyrics hidden behind her cutesy, fantasy-doll-like outfits and style. How many times have you seen a Pinterest outfit, craft or colour and thought, "This is so Melanie"? This song has beautiful, relatable lyrics that work despite the gap between the majority of us listeners and the kind of person described in the lyrics - Mostly a financial and social difference, yes, but this person is a human dealing with some issues similar to people like most of us.
This song highlights the issues, not our differences, allows us to sympathise and empathise, provides room for beautiful and whimsical music videos and sounds amazing over headphones, in particular.
