Hello!
I have been out of school for five years and I am thinking about specializing. I am between pursuing ortho or radiology. I have done a lot of looking around on the internet for opinions on OMFR residency and practicing as an OMFR, but there isn’t a ton of information out there. I have the following questions and I’m hoping someone will be able to answer them:
Did you have to apply multiple times or did you get in on your first try? What did you think made you a competitive applicant?
Were you able to work during residency?
After you graduated, did you go into private practice or become faculty? How hard is it to find a job in private practice?
For those who started their own practice, how hard was it to market yourself?
I can’t seem to find an exact range for expected salary. I’ve seen between 70-90k annually or 250-400k+ annually. I have been able to find comments about how current OMFRs saying they are happy with their salary, but they don’t make what an OS or ortho would make. Without needing to disclose actual salary, can someone give a more accurate range? I know if depends on location, how much you work, private vs corporate vs education.
I’ve seen many people comment AI is a concern, but OMFRs respond saying it will actually help the career. Has anyone actually seen new AI programs being used in radiology now and are they actually beneficial?
Any insight is appreciated! Thank you!!
