My response to the State of the County.

The State of the County address felt less like a local report and more like a self-congratulatory sugar-coated victory lap. Instead of tackling the immediate, kitchen-table issues facing our residents, it was hyper-focused on state-level politics—important, yes—but so disconnected from what's happening at our doorstep.

When we win in August, these events will look a lot different. They will reflect the thoughts of our residents—the ones who actually understand the true condition of our county.

I got into this race because I believe local government should actually listen to the people it serves. Too many folks in our county feel like their voices don’t matter, and I want to change that.

Some of the priorities I’m focused on include:

  • Allocating more funds for strong, inclusive public schools. That means raising teacher pay, providing them with resources they need and ensuring our students have access to mental health care.
  • Rebuilding our health department. I want to expand essential services for our most vulnerable, not dismantle them.
  • Restoring transparency in local government. I want to use tax dollars responsibly and create a way for citizens to track projects and be aware of spending. Government leaders need to be held accountable because we work for you - not our own interests.
  • Investing in affordable housing to accommodate the rapid growth of the region
  • Protecting our natural resources and public spaces

We’re also hosting a canvassing kickoff on March 21. If you want to meet the team, knock doors, or just learn more about the campaign, you’re welcome to join us. Hop over to my page or socials to learn more. And most importantly, let me know what matters to you!

Canvassing kickoff is next weekend! Join the team as we begin knocking on doors and telling our neighbors about Herndon for Hamilton!

Saturday, March 21st Red Bank United Methodist Church 10:30-12:30

Sign up using the link in the comments!

Whether this is your first time canvassing or your hundredth, we welcome all levels of experience. We will prepare you with a quick Canvassing 101 beforehand. You bring the energy and we will provide the materials, tips and routes.

If you can't make it to this one - never fear. We are canvassing nearly every weekend until the election on August 6th. The link allows you to sign-up for future dates, too, so join us when you are able.

**Before the kickoff, please download the MiniVAN app. This is the tool we use to identify which doors to knock on. You’ll be asked to log in or create an ActionID using your email and a password. We can help with setup at the event, but downloading it ahead of time will give us more time to focus on talking with neighbors about Mark.

Bring water, sunscreen and comfortable shoes to hit the streets. And while you're at it, bring a friend. We can't wait to see you out there!
