Please help me settle a debate- is it one or two words if there there is a space between a compound noun?

Would you use the generic militia, soldier and sailor sprus to create proxies for special units (like Zeelieden and Kapen units)?
I’ll have: 30 militia 12 soldiers 18 sailors
