Anesthesia and old cat. Advice needed
Hi guys.
First off, I’m sorry if this is a bit all over the place. It’s late and I’m just bad at explaining stuff sometimes.
I have a 16 year old cat. She is sterilised and an indoor cat.
Last week her tail went limp and she showed signs of being in pain. I went to the vet same day and got some painkillers for her and in case it didn’t get better within a week, I was told that an xray was needed to be done. At the same time this vet was new to us, since my old one stopped and it was her first time seeing my little girl. She noticed my cat was very underweight (which in hindsight, I should’ve noticed) and she noticed signs of tooth resorption and that there may be some pain involved with that as well.
I was told it was up to me if it should get fixed, since it’s gonna cost a lot and she’s old. First thing that needed to be in order though, was the tail.
I have an agreement, that I’ll call in tomorrow and talk to them. Her tail has gotten much better. It’s not limp anymore and she moves it more normal again. Her last dose of pain meds was yesterday. I can feel a little bump on her tail, which I am going to mention to them tomorrow.
Now comes the thing. Next step is fixing her tooth problems and for that she needs to be put under for tooth extraction and X-rays. Money is not the problem here (thanks mom), but I’m worried if she can handle it. Bloodworks have been done and everything looked fine. She has gained roughly 30-40 grams since last Thursday (she has been offered wetfood since then). She still has a long way to go, since she is only 2,28 kg and needs to be 3-3,5 kg. Yes, she is very small and was bottlefed from birth.
I really need a second opinion here from somebody, who doesn’t just see the money they could earn. I want to do everything for her, but I’m so not ready to lose her. What would you guys do? Go ahead with the anesthesia?
Thanks in advance!
