When did your skin routine stop working for you? Mine just stopped making sense around 42

I've had pretty much the same skincare routine for years and it always just worked. Sometime around 42 that stopped being true. My skin got drier in spots that used to run oily, some texture showed up that wasn't there before, and things look a bit duller than usual even when I'm sleeping fine and drinking enough water.

I looked into it a bit and most of what I found just says it's hormonal and leaves it at that, which doesn't really tell me what to do differently. I've tried cutting back on actives and adding more hydration but I'm honestly just guessing at this point.

Curious if this happened gradually for other people or if it felt sudden like it did for me. Also wondering what products you had to drop even though they used to work fine, and if anything actually helped with the dryness and texture, or if it's just something you wait out. If you don't mind me asking, around what age did you notice it start for you?

Not trying to find a miracle fix, just want to hear from people who've actually gone through this. Did things settle into a new normal for you eventually, or does it keep changing?
