Accommodation Advice for Incoming Exchange Student

Hello everyone!

Canadian student who’s super hyped to be studying at the UofG this autumn! I just wanted to reach out for advice on single semester student accommodations because it seems like the university has had a significant amount of interest this year—starting to get worried about not getting a university accommodations offer.

I applied for accommodations with the university back in April (with an unconditional offer) but decided to reach out yesterday because I hadn’t heard anything. Below is the response:

Thank you for your email.

We can only consider your application if we still have vacancies closer to the start of session.  However we have received a high volume of applications from full year students.

We would therefore advise you to try source accommodation in the private market.  Please see link to SRC Advice Centre who can assist students in finding private accommodation.

I’ve seen elsewhere online that offers can be particularly late. However I think it would better to cut my losses and start looking for other options rather than stressing all the way up until September. While I’m aware that only being in Glasgow for a single semester makes finding something more difficult, any advice would be appreciated! Whether it’s private student housing, apps to find roommates, advice on finding available sublets, anything would be super helpful with research! 🤗 Tysm!
