Some tips for creating Two-Way Demigods
Just as the title says, I have some tips for people who want to create their own two- way stars, as well as a few extra to make your team a future Evil Empire.
- SPIRITS MODE
While there is a certain satisfaction to starting a player career from the bottom and reaching the stars through time and effort, you are forced to do so in many sports games. Pro Spirits gives you the option to be a demigod from the jump and I always take that route because it's fun. I would honestly argue it's necessary for pitchers and two-way stars because the amount of hours you save on trying to improve your player is insane.
Remember what team you are creating this player for! While you can choose to play for any team should you select them for a Superstar Career play through, this is still an important detail I'll bring up later.
Always use a 30% off coupon to squeeze the most out of your player. You'll need it for the hitting stats in particular, but they also help immensely for making sure your pitches are actually good. Your player can have some really nasty breaking stuff and I would encourage you to focus on the fastball and 2 - 3 breaking pitches that are fantastic, rather than having a lot of mid pitches.
The higher pitching difficulties require you to mix speeds, location and throwing balls to be successful. With that in mind, choose pitches that vary in speed and break. This guide here is great and can help you decide. More on the pitch types aspect later.
The Perfect Run
As for the types of hands you are going for, I would personally recommend nothing short of a Perfect Game (Royal Flush). You get a ton of points and spirits to use and you'll need it for the hitting stats of your 2W player specifically. Pitchers only (PO) can go for less, but your going to still need a lot of spirits and points in your Pitching and Pitch types areas respectively. Focus and Stamina aren't as taxing on resources.
I would also recommend restarting runs early and often. I only see about 2-3 hands on average, trying all the while to get a 6-10 straight flush before restarting. Its free and the time you spend here doing this will pale in comparison to grinding it out the long way. Once you get it or are satisfied, you'll be fine. Take the challenge at the end if you feel like it I suppose, but I would advise against it. The points you sacrifice in the Pitch Types category may very well be crucial and you have more than enough spirits at 500+ anyway.
- PLAYER CREATION
Hitting
Assuming you are making a 2W player and threw a perfect game, go ahead and boost those stats up. You will have no issue at all making a great hitter that can run, all the while being able to get the abilities and a few hot zones if you like. The points should be able to give at least B contact in both, but you will easily clear S Class power. The speed category can be tricky, because upgrading stealing and baserunning can be point intensive, but the big one here is fielding.
In order to make a 2W player, you need to grab at least 1 other fielding affinity. The points here get used up quick, so honestly I would just pick a single position and get it up to C affinity. I'm still not well versed in how the defensive simulation works, but I know that even with good positional affinity (B+) you can still get a lot of errors if you play as an infielder. Catching, throwing and arm should all get to at least C, but I honestly think catching might be the most important for winning gold gloves and the like. I personally go outfield for the Cannon Arm ability.
Pitching
While hitting is nice, the real goal here is to absolutely dominate on the mound. You can grab a lot of the best abilities here if you were unable to get them for free during special training. Stamina and Focus are pretty straightforward categories. They leave a lot of points on the table, but that's fine. Again, if you were able to land a perfect game, you can invest as you please. Stamina doesn't need to go above 90, but recovery will always be nice to have. You can improve it during spring training in Superstar mode, but seeing as thats the only time you can do it, I encourage you to invest in it here. But here comes the 2 categories that made me think a "perfect run" is largely recommended.
The pitching category allows you to upgrade the velocity of the fastball. If you want to make a flamethrower that can sit at 100+ mph, this is where you'll be sinking most of your spirits. Should you want to go beyond 100mph, a single uptick in velo will cost 7-8 spirits each. Very expensive, but there if you want it. Personally, I wouldn't go much higher than 101. My current Pitcher has 105 max, but on high difficulties the CPU will hit it anyway if you don't mix things up. I was definitely disappointed upon learning this at first, as this meant throwing impossibly hard in the game was just a novelty and you can't just dominate with pure power. That said, it was a learning experience for sure and I've come to appreciate learning how to pitch in this game.
Choosing Pitch Types
This is essentially the whole reason why I decided to make this write up and encourage those seeking to play as pitchers/2W to go this route. Upgrading pitch types after creation and during superstar mode takes FOREVER and I can't say I enjoy it all. Getting a pitch from G or F tier to the next letter may very well take more than a full season. When I saw that my cutter, Bs in all categories in the forkball slot, barely added a Pixel even after intense practice with training equipment, I knew this was the only reliable way to ensure your pitcher had a good arsenal. I would even dare to say that maxing out any pitch by creating a rookie in superstar mode is nigh impossible without playing a 30 year career.
Again, assuming you pursued a perfect run, you should have enough to give yourself at least 3 maxed out pitches and 2 exceptional pitches. I like to max out the fastball, a curveball, and some type of changeup but it's completely up to you. Now, I'm not entirely sure how the game defines pitch type power, but I would assume it references how hard you throw it. If so, it is important, but I would definitely choose break and control over it. A max breaking pitch is absolutely nasty and control is important for hitting those perfect pitches. You'll actually run out of points in this category a lot faster than you think and thats why I'm not big on the final challenge. I myself was just 20 points shy of an A to S control upgrade and was pretty miffed at missing it.
Don't be too worried about picking and choosing pitch types either. I have an idea for how to remedy it. While I've yet to test it myself, if it works, it could save hundreds of hours yet again.
- BOLSTER THE RANKS - OPTIONAL
Finish upgrading your new player and enjoy the creation of your demigod. While you could just hop into Superstar mode and enjoy, there is another thing you can do if you'd like. See, at the end of each season, the game asks you if you'd like to port over created players into your current save during the draft. Those selected will be added to the league in that universe. Remember earlier how I said that the team a player is assigned in spirits is important? Well, there is a chance that that whatever team the player is created for is where they will be drafted. Makes sense, but this leads to something wonderful:
Not only is it possible to ensure that other teams will have high end talent, creating new faces of franchises and highly competitive leagues and rivalries if you want them. But you can also make your own teammates and lay the foundation for a dynasty. I'm currently playing in a save where my newly drafted CF teamate is tearing up the league and will surely be invaluable in winning the Japan series.
I was also able to befriend them as well, and this gave me an idea I'm excited to test. For my run playing as a 2w, I'll only add up to 2 more position players (catcher will def be one) and maybe 1 reliever or closer. That's just for me, but do whatever is most enjoyable for you
- UP THE PITCHING ARSENAL- BONUS
Assuming you can learn carry over abilities from drafted created players, this is huge for pitchers specifically. See, the only way to learn new pitches is from your friends, but you have to be careful. The new pitch will have the same stats as the person who taught it and can't be learned again. For example, if you learn a forkball from one teammate, but find out another has a better one, im afraid you're out of luck. That pitch can't be learned again and you'll need to choose something else. This means that you should only learn pitches that are very high tier. The problem is, truly elite pitches in the game are a rarity across teams and players. You'll be lucky to see someone with an A rating in one aspect, but the other could be lacking and the break unimpressive. What's the alternative?
I'm going to make myself a closer for the team I currently play for and ensure they have a max pitch that I want, but don't currently have. If I can learn it, you best believe I'm grabbing it. You can only do it 1 per player, but it will still be worth it if it works.
Hope this write up helps someone and enjoy the game!
