Trying really hard to get into it, but I keep putting it down like every other page. The writing seems really amateurish and tell not show. Does it get better past the first couple chapters? The MMC seems absolutely amazing and so does their chemistry, I'm just really struggling with it right now and he hasn't even shown up.
I know the green knight came out a while ago, but Dev Patel was cast as the Gawain. The green knight was a story from like the 1300 hundreds in England, revolving around the mythical Arthurian court. In my mind, similar broad strokes to the odyssey. Written long ago, for a different group of people in mind, obviously fictional with magic and people, however most likely rooted in some kind of truth (Arthur existing in some form IRL). Dev Patel is obviously Indian, but playing a English knight. I think Arthur and Guinevere are Indian as well.
Did that movie have as similar backlash to the Odyssey casting, or is the Odyssey backlash with Lupita (although I don't see as much or any backlash against Himesh Patel or the Asian crewmate, or surprisingly Zendaya) just a sign of how much more conservative and white-nationalist pilled the western public has become since 2021.
Edit: On second thought, why aren't the people who are so focused on very white-minded 'historically accurate" casting not moreso upset about Himesh Patel having such a relatively large role when India did much less face to face trading than Asia or Africa?

I'm looking for a fragrance that smells like a woman who has been kinda not human for a very long time. not in a dark evil or sexy way. Like she was human, and then she devoted herself so completely to something divine that eventually she was closer to divinity than humanity, except not in the "ascended good person way" but in the "not quite right" way. In the modern day she's aloof, and unknowable and untouchable, like she sees through the modern world. She's not a bad person though yknow?

For context I did my undergrad in neuroscience and philosophy (primarily phil of mind) at a small school that's good enough to have long standing partnership with Oxford for our studies to study abroad there.
Since graduation I've been working in neurosurgery research. I haven't published anything in phil or history, but I have in medicine and my PI is a world renowned neurosurgeon. Their page says that they welcome applicants with a background of history/philosophy, especially science/medicine, and that they recruit from a variety of discipline. I'm worried I'm a bit too STEM for them given my lack of historical research background.
For context:
Story is about grappling with loss to the point of refusing to acknowledge it ever occurred. Clara turns her dead girlfriend into her own ghost, choosing to believe that Marie, as usual, is simply traveling a lot after being cooped up for so long. Reader is unaware for the most part which scenes are when Marie was living, and which ones Marie is an imagined ghost. Clara, estranged from her dad with unresolved issues, is isolated with only Jaime, Marie's close friend, for comfort. Through line of restraint and avoidance. Final words of the story is "She opens her mouth and she is all animal. All sound."
Would love any thoughts on it please. First time I've tried writing something out besides a phrase in my notes app.
