The premise of the first Nekoconne story arc doesn't make sense?

"there are rumors that Felidae Corporation holds nekos' personal data hostage, in order to make them work hard."

So we are withholding your personal data, unless if you work for it.

Wouldn't this only serve to validate the rumors?

It feels really weird to me that they can't just tell Chocola her birthday outright. Personal information is supposed to be your possession, a person wanting to know her birthday is valid cause in itself. It should also only take like a minute typing into a database to look it up.
