Rick Devens
I couldn't be happier with the outcome of this season. Rick Devens played an excellent game. I had read a comment in one of the posts prior to seeing the season finale, and thought it implied Taylor had won, I was not only upset that I had read a spoiler, but the thought that Devens didn't seal the deal was actually upsetting..
Devens is such a likable guy, he was earnest in his social pleasantries, calculating with his physical prowess and appeared to have his thumb on the proverbial button in this game the entire time..
I can't remember the last time I felt as invested in the outcome of a show, it was easy to root for such a likable guy, someone who's priority was bringing the money home to his family, his kids asking their father "we have to do something nice for Drew" He also was constantly referencing 'Becka' concerned about the sacrifices she was making on his behalf, and wanting nothing more than bringing home the prize to his family.
On a podcast he talked about taking a family trip to Japan, and investing the rest of the money "so we can retire early" I have no doubts he'll use the money wisely, and hopefully make sure Drew gets a small slice of the pie.
I felt compelled to express my happiness at who won this season of Big Brother, it's impossible to feel anything other than joy at seeing a good guy finally succeed at a reality t.v show, after two seasons of survivor, he certainly earned the prize
I am struck by how it feels like my cynicism is ebbing, especially considering the times we are currently in. We have given power to a president who parallels Devens in character, someone who is shameless in his pursuit of material gain, who casually and impulsively starts a war, puts little value on the lives of other, and has made it clear that he see's winning above and over anything else.
Although I understand what sub I am in, it is hard not to reflect on the circumstances we find ourselves during this season, mentions of existential threats are the topic of the day, our leaders are corrupt, signing morally binding contacts, with signatures by the immoral leaders entrusted with our future, so seeing someone like Rick Devens, take the prize in Big Brother, was more than just satisfying, more than just that feeling of relief watching the final moments of the finale, anxious and way to invested in a reality t.v show, but I was invested in the outcome, nevertheless. I literally sighed in relief, I needed the good guy to win, one less person unconcerned with the ability to fill his car with gas, provide groceries to his family, and live the American dream we were promised.
