Hey everyone, I would like to get some honest feedbacks on my career plan moving to Oldenburg.

I’m Vietnamese, have a US Bachelors in Business Administration and Film Media studied minus Computer Science, with about 4 years of experience in the tech and agritech sectors in Vietnam, my homeland. My wife and I are moving to Oldenburg soon on a B18 Aufenthaltstitel.

For the first year, my main job will actually be in a restaurant service, this is a family choice. We will spend my first year to improve our German, we are currently at A2, and learn to make our daily life in Oldenburg.

Once we’re settled, my goal is to ask for funding my first indie game project as a side business, I love gaming at heart. I will ask a formal Nebentätigkeitsgenehmigung from my Arbeitgeber.

My target is to pitch for public funding from regional boards like Nordmedia (Oldenburg/Bremen/Hamburg). The game is designed to appeal to the German market for deep mechanics and realism. I believe I have a few advantages to ask for funding.

I have an active network with highly skilled tech and art firms in Vietnam. I plan to co-founder with local to start a business and utilizing the Vietnam techs and firms as an outsourcing force. I have experience on pitching multi billion VND valuations for many teach and agritech startups in Da Nang, Vietnam.

My game project also have nice scope which not only can be achievable for a skilled small team in Germany but also with big skilled team in Vietnam for a same cost.

Are there any thing I should watch out for regarding my side business planning, or any tips on approaching the local tech scene in Germany? I am appreciate any advice!

Ich bin Vietnamese, habe einen US-Bachelor in BWL und Filmmedien (mit Nebenfach Informatik) und habe etwa 4 Jahre Erfahrung im Tech- und Agritech-Sektor in Vietnam, meiner Heimat. Meine Frau und ich ziehen bald mit einem §18 Aufenthaltstitel nach Oldenburg.

Im ersten Jahr werde ich hauptberuflich in der Gastronomie arbeiten. Das ist eine Entscheidung für die Familie. Wir wollen das erste Jahr nutzen, um unser Deutsch zu verbessern (wir sind aktuell auf A2-Niveau) und uns an den Alltag in Oldenburg zu gewöhnen.

Wenn wir uns eingelebt haben, ist es mein Ziel, als Nebenjob eine Finanzierung für mein erstes Indie-Spiel-Projekt zu beantragen. Ich liebe Videospiele von ganzem Herzen. Dafür werde ich meinen Arbeitgeber um eine formelle Nebentätigkeitsgenehmigung bitten.

Mein Ziel ist es, öffentliche Fördermittel von regionalen Organisationen wie Nordmedia (Oldenburg/Bremen/Hamburg) zu bekommen. Das Spiel ist speziell für den deutschen Markt entwickelt, da es tiefe Spielmechaniken und Realismus bietet. Ich glaube, ich habe einige Vorteile, um diese Förderung zu erhalten:

Ich habe ein aktives Netzwerk mit hochqualifizierten Tech- und Art-Firmen in Vietnam. Ich plane, zusammen mit jemandem vor Ort (in Deutschland) ein Unternehmen zu gründen und die vietnamesischen Firmen für das Outsourcing zu nutzen. Ich habe zudem Erfahrung darin, Tech- und Agritech-Startups in Da Nang zu präsentieren und Projektbewertungen im Milliarden-VND-Bereich zu erzielen.

Mein Spielprojekt hat auch einen sehr guten Umfang. Es ist so geplant, dass es nicht nur von einem kleinen Entwicklerteam in Deutschland machbar ist, sondern dass man für das gleiche Budget ein großes, erfahrenes Team in Vietnam nutzen kann.

Gibt es etwas, worauf ich bei der Planung meiner Nebentätigkeit besonders achten sollte? Oder habt ihr Tipps, wie ich Kontakt zur lokalen Tech-Szene in Deutschland knüpfen kann? Ich bin für jeden Ratschlag sehr dankbar!
