SSCL processed my new role as an internal transfer after I’d resigned urgently need advice
Wondering if anyone has dealt with something similar before and would have any advice on what I should do.
I recently accepted a new Civil Service role in HMPPS and am due to start on the prior agreed start date of May 26th. Over the last month I’d asked multiple times (4 in total) why I still hadn’t received my contract, and today (21st May) I finally received a call from SSCL London explaining the issue.
Apparently my contract had been processed as though I was still an existing civil servant/internal transfer. However, I had already formally resigned from my previous HMCTS role earlier this month before the contract was issued, meaning they are now saying the contract they produced can’t actually be used.
The person I spoke to from the recruitment team said the quickest possible solution may be for my status to be temporarily changed to “unresigned”, as apparently there is some kind of internal process for this which could avoid needing a completely new contract drafted. Otherwise they warned rewriting the contract could potentially take up to 6 weeks.
I contacted my old line manager, who told me that because I’m no longer on SOP this now has to go through HR directly, which I’ve now done however I got a no reply email saying it could take up to 5 working days for a response.
I’m honestly panicking a bit because I can’t secure somewhere to rent in London until I have a contract, and my current temporary living situation is going to end very soon.
Has anyone experienced anything similar before, or knows how long this process actually tends to take?
Mainly trying to work out whether this is realistically fixable quickly or whether I should expect a long delay and if there is anyone I should try and get in contact with .
