Major Question
Why does prestige matter do much in this sub? I mean, the importance of the program doesn't matter that much in finding a job here in Ontario. Most of the university programs, while slightly different in model, meet the same basic requirements and thus you should be just fine if you want to go into postgrad or get your MD or PhD. Hell, even if you want to become a doctor or something, there's no preferred undergrad degree! I could study music, or gender studies or history or something I really love, and as long as I do well on the MCAT and scrape together my ECs, I'll have the same chances as someone who went to one of these programs! And even then, the chances of getting into med school are so slim it's not even funny. If you truly want to do it, then go ahead! But if you're doing it for prestige or money or parental approval, I don't understand. Perhaps I'll never understand. And this is coming from a not wealthy kid with strict immigrant parents. I don't want to be saddled with a career I dislike, that I'll be in thousands of dollars of debt for, and on top of it, lack all personality and love and happiness to the point of sabotaging, berating, and destroying friendships with people who I've never met on the internet.
I don't get it.
Enlighten me.
