Help Cyberpunk has flatlined
Hi, I need help with a crash that happens every single time I try to launch Cyberpunk 2077.
Background: The crash started right after I installed Cyber Engine Tweaks (CET) and tried to bind a key in one of its windows. The game crashed immediately after that. I have since:
Fully uninstalled CET (removed all files from bin\x64\plugins\)
Verified game file integrity through Steam (multiple times)
Completely uninstalled and reinstalled the entire game
Deleted the r6\cache folder
Cleared shader cache
Disabled Steam Overlay, Discord Overlay, and AMD Radeon Overlay
Disabled Xbox Game Bar entirely
Confirmed the GPU driver is not the issue (reset OC/UV to stock, still crashes)
None of this fixed it — the crash still happens on every launch.
all my other games (including demanding ones) run perfectly fine. This crash is isolated to Cyberpunk 2077 specifically.
Crash report details:
EventType=REDEngineErrorReport
ErrorReason=Assert
InternalVersion=3.0.5294808 P4CL: 9778208 Stream: /R6.Root/R6.Release
No stack hash, no specific faulting module listed in the report itself. Checked Windows Event Viewer (both Application and System logs) — found nothing pointing directly to Cyberpunk2077.exe.
System specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600
RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz
Windows 10 (build 19045)
Motherboard: MSI MS-7B84
My current theory: since the crash started right when I was binding a key in a mod, and survived a full reinstall, I suspect it's related to a corrupted UserSettings.json or key binding file in the Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077 folder — which a normal reinstall doesn't touch. I'm about to try deleting that folder (and disabling Steam Cloud sync for the game first) — will update if that fixes it.
Has anyone run into something similar? Any other ideas on what could cause a persistent Assert crash that survives a clean reinstall?
