IVDD support

My almost 6 year old French bulldog was evaluated for possible IVDD today after we noticed some mild back leg stiffness/dragging. Honestly it’s been subtle enough that we thought it could even be arthritis or something else.

He is still walking, eating, happy, playing, and acting completely normal otherwise. No crying, no paralysis, no bladder/bowel issues.

The vet did the paw flip/proprioception test and said he didn’t correct the paw normally, which made them think neurological/IVDD. X-rays were done as well.

What confused/upset me was the vet saying they feel it has “progressed too far” for surgery, crate rest, or anti inflammatory meds to really help, and that it’s more of a “manage at home” situation now.

Has anyone had a Frenchie with mild chronic IVDD symptoms like this that stayed stable for years? Did the dragging eventually progress? Did PT/rehab/lifestyle changes help?

Just trying to understand realistic expectations because right now he still seems really happy and functional.
