Saturday in the Park

For those who have been to a Saturday in the Park concert, do Sam and Nate sign posters and/or take any photos if you’re not aggressive about it? Don’t want to hassle them or take away from what they are trying to accomplish but wouldn’t mind getting my RCMH poster from last night signed or at least get to say hello and thank you :)

Also anyone know what part of the Longmeadow area of Prospect Park they are setting up at?

See everyone there!

2026 v. 1964

I recently bought an original editorial cartoon from the late, great Eddie Germano from the 1963-64 offseason. The 1964-1966 clubs would go on to lose 90, 100 and 90 games respectively. Much of the complaints in those days are strikingly relevant to us in 2026 so I reimagined what a Germano cartoon might look like today. The 1963 original is the 2nd photo for comparison.

Ted Williams Red Seat HR Day

80 Years Ago Today - Ted Williams hit a HR in the 1st inning of the second game of a Sunday doubleheader that traveled so far up in the Fenway bleachers it broke an unsuspecting fan’s straw hat.

All eyes were on the Red Sox in 1946 as they were in the midst of a legendary season that ended with a heartbreaking World Series loss. But the legend of Teddy Ballgame’s HR only grew. Later estimates placed the HR at approximately 525 feet if left unobstructed which would still be a record for left handed hitters at Fenway.

When the outfield benches were redone as individual seats in 1984, Haywood Sullivan had the HR spot commemorated as the ‘red seat’, a feature of Fenway Park that is as synonymous to tourists today as the Green Monster and Pesky’s Pole.

On that June 9, 1946 day Red Sox pitcher Mickey Harris pitched a complete game in the first half of the doubleheader and like all of his wins that season, he obtained the final out ball and inscribed it with the winning score, the date and his win total. It just so happened that it was win #9 on June 9.

While this game used ball notes the first game of the doubleheader and Williams hit his famous home run in the first inning of the second game, it was likely no more than an hour between when Harris collected this ball and walked off the mound and when Williams hit his legendary HR in the first inning of the second game.

The home run ball Williams hit into the stands and broke Joe Boucher’s hat bounced several rows up and is most likely lost to time as Boucher never recovered it. So this ball, directly from Mickey Harris’ family estate, is one of the closest memorabilia that is out there from this fateful day in Red Sox and Ted Williams history.
