I'm taking a trip to the Canary Islands later this year via Air Europa and was looking at buying a hardside bag that has linear dimensions right under the 62 inch limit for a checked bag (61.75 inches).

I'm a little paranoid about them measuring it poorly at the gate and saying its over the size limit and adding a surcharge. Is it common for bags to be measured like that or am I being ridiculous? Would like to get a bag that allows me to pack as much as possible but still be cost conscious in not getting a surcharge.
