Your identity is NOT your job
As above, we all got to know how to divorce the perception that we are our jobs. I have been through 5 layoffs till date and yes the first one hurt. Gave my all blah blah, but its a lesson that:
You will forget people, network and things that you do once you leave a company.
No one will care what you did or achieved in professional life, likely everyone around you is salty about your pay, perks, achievements, etc.
Work relationships never translate to real friendships, cos everyone is fighting for their jobs and will turn on each other.
What you can do to be less sad and dependent like an abused partner:
Treat jobs as prison sentences for $, once you leave you are free
Maximise, exploit, abuse every perk , privilege and tool for max enjoyment. Never save $ for company. Sheeet if you can fly on biz or 1st, dine well, comp gifts, spend on questionable stuff, do it. And take what you can from the place - anything not bolted. i furnish my home office with all the nice tech and herman chairs
Work minimal as little as you can. No overtime no free hours no extra unpaid work.
You are not being a monster, they made us that way. Loyalty no longer exists in the corporate dictionary. We are all mercenaries now.
Not doing so will risk your health, mental wellbeing and Real Relationships with family and friends.
