2024 Atlas R-Line Waking Up on its Own When Parked and Locked
So this all started yesterday evening on my wife's commute home. The infotainment screen rebooted itself every few minutes the entire drive.
Four hours after she got home, I was watching TV and noticed my phone disconnected from home WiFi and connected to the Atlas. Android Auto and YouTube Music launched on my phone. Went and checked Atlas, infotainment screen on, playing music, DIC is on and accent lighting is on. Key fob was nowhere near vehicle.
Manually turned off infotainment system, went about my business and it did same thing 30 minutes later.
This time, I did a hard reset of infotainment by holding power button for 20 seconds until it rebooted and went thru VW logo sequence.
I locked doors and placed key fob as far away as possible on my back porch, about 100 ft away. Went back an hour later to check, everything looked good except when I looked in vehicle, boom it connected to my phone that was in my pocket, infotainment screen comes on, heard the "whirring" sound from engine bay, DIC lit up and accent lighting came on. Key fob still 100 ft away.
So I had eliminated the key fob as part of problem, time to test phone. Left phone and key fob on porch, and just sat in garage and watched. Sure enough about 30 mins later, screen wakes up by itself, "whirring" sound from engine bay occurs, DIC wakes up. No key fob present, no phone present.
The DIC eventually goes to sleep but the infotainment screen doesnt, it stayed awake and fully on for the next hour.
At this point (3 AM) I am concerned that the screen is going to kill the battery overnight so I dig out my battery tender and connect to battery and went to bed.
Woke up at 6:30 to check things, screen is off, DIC is off, accent lighting off. I was worried battery was dead so I opened drivers door and screen, DIC, lights came on as normal. But again, the infotainment screen never turned off, stayed fully awake until we cranked car at 7:30 so my wife can take to dealership.
Vehicle is still under factory bumper to bumper warranty. I told her to get a loaner because we cannot trust it to be parked for any length of time without fear of it leaving us stranded with a dead battery.
