My Japanese teacher used AI (I think) for my recommendation letter
Hi everyone, I hope you're all having a wonderful day, and also the best of luck with your applications right now.
I hope this doesn't break any rules. I checked and didn't see it doing that, but I may be blind, so apologies in case.
Either way, I'm nearly done with my application for the programme, and have basically been for weeks now. The only problem is my second recommendation letter. I had asked my Japanese teacher to write one because I figured it would seem quite good to have one written in Japanese. She agreed to, but she is quite a busy person. She took a while, and then when she sent it it was written in a very different writing style then I'm used to seeing from her. I figured it may just be because this is an official document, but then while reading I noticed factual errors about certain details about stuff I've done. Like for example, I told her I did German for a semester at university, and now the letter is saying I went to Germany for an exchange program... I've never left the country. I thought then maybe I just explained things badly but because it was so odd I put the text in an AI text detector. 2 in fact. Both said 95-99% AI generated.
I'm not saying it is for sure but... Damn. My opinions on AI aside, the errors alone create big problems.
I want to just ask what the right choice would be here. Should I just ask another lecturer from my university? I already have one from my supervisor, but there are a few other lecturers that I feel like I'm on good enough terms with. Of course, that means I don't have an actual Japanese person recommending me, and I know that's not the point of these at all, but I initially thought it may have helped. A side of me also just kind of feels bad if I don't use her letter because I'll just have to lie to her and say I did use it when I didn't.
Sorry for the long post. The due date here is soon, and I have to courier the application half way across the country (South Africa), so whatever decision I do make, I need to make it soon. I'm leaning towards just asking another lecturer but I felt compelled to ask if other people think I'm over thinking or something.
Thank you for your time!
