Hey everyone, looking for some advice or insight because I’m feeling pretty lost right now.
I’ve had constipation for a few years, but over time it got worse and turned into severe bloating and severe constipation. I finally went to a doctor and after a bunch of testing I was diagnosed with methane SIBO (around 28–29 ppm).
Unfortunately, my doctor hasn’t really been helpful with treatment or management, so I started researching on my own and decided to try the herbal route in conjunction with a Low FODMAP diet.
So far:
Magnesium + ginger helped my motility a LOT
I slowly worked up to 1350mg of allicin
I tried increasing the allicin dose further, but it caused diarrhea, so I stayed at 1350mg
Then I added berberine
Once I got up to 3 berberine capsules daily, things went downhill fast. I started having:
Extreme bloating/distention
Lower body and back pain from the pressure/bloating, I can’t sleep because of the pain
Urgent diarrhea
Overall feeling terrible
At this point I’ve stopped both the allicin and berberine temporarily just to calm things down, but now I honestly don’t know where to go from here.
Has anyone else reacted badly to berberine or had symptoms get significantly worse during herbal treatment? Did you lower doses, switch supplements, take a break, or try something completely different?
Would really appreciate any opinions because I’m feeling stuck and discouraged
