How much can a1c be lowered in a month?
I’m still new to this so bear with me. I did an at home test 1 month ago (I know they’re not always 100% accurate and it wasn’t the one where you send it to a lab), and it was 6.5. I figured even if it’s not 100%, it’s still enough for me to get serious because I was already having symptoms like thirst and having to pee constantly. I took this number as more of a general idea assuming it was somewhere around there.
I completely changed my eating habits, am doing well with lower carbs, cut out sugar, increased fiber, started exercising, etc.
I went to the doctor exactly one month after starting these changes and my a1c was at 5.9. Is it possible that I could’ve been in the diabetic range (like the test said) at the beginning of the month but it dropped to that because of my changes? Can it drop that much in only a month? I have yet to speak to my doctor about this which I will be doing soon, but I’m just wondering until then. I’m worried I’ll be misdiagnosed with prediabetes when it’s actually diabetes but I’ve lowered it so it doesn’t get caught. Again, I’m new to this so I might be fully misinformed on how this works.
