Reciting or Singing to Myself on Stand
I had a 40 min rotation on stand at 5am this morning, just a few old folks swimming slow laps or treading. To keep myself alert I started reciting poems and writings to myself. Other times I will sing to myself. I feel like it's a double edged sword, like I may get too engrossed in my thoughts, but it also keeps me from going glassy eyed and keeps my brain awake so early in the AM.
What are your thoughts on this? Does anyone do something similar?
For those curious, I was a theatre kid and my dad used to make us memorize. Today I was reciting Invictus by Henley, St. Crispin Day by Shakespeare, and the first Paragraph of Moby Dick by Melville. When I sing, most recently it has been all the verses of Amazing Grace.
