Be careful with Coursera billing
I was laid off in April and wanted to use Coursera to cert up for my resume.
I signed up for the free trial but wasn't really into it. When I went into my account I had nothing to cancel. Found it weird but kind of second guessed if I ever signed up at all. Was charged and realized that despite logging in from my gmail coursera had created multiple accounts with the same email one tied to Facebook (which used my email and password) and a separate account that used my gmail login (all on the same email). They would not refund, but I was confused and clearly didn't do enough diligence in canceling. I did have a lengthy chat with support and they told me they had closed my account and I would not be charged in the future.
Chat log:
"( 9m 6s ) George M : Thank you for waiting, ***. I’ve checked the email linked to your account (***@gmail.com) and found the following: Trial Period: You started a free trial for Google Data Analytics on April 21, 2026. Billing: Since the trial wasn't canceled within the 7-day window, the first charge was automatically processed on April 29, 2026. Current Status: I have now canceled the subscription for you. You will keep access to the course until May 1, 2026 (11:29 AM PDT), at which point your access will expire. Rest assured, there are no other charges on your account and no future payments will occur. Based on your email address, this is the only account we have on file"
Low and behold, they have charged me again. I reached out to support and they are "looking into it".
My purchases list shows this
- Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate Status: Inactive
- Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate Status: Inactive
They have no reason or authorization to run my card but still did so despite our agreement.
Use Coursera if it works for you but be cautious, they are bad actors who business is to take fees in bad faith.
