Movin Out 🤝 Royal
Royal is a great tribute to Billy Joel and one of his best songs. I think I thought this to some degree when Royal first came out but it’s more apparent after they played Movin out at Gonzo.

Lyrics open with the naming of a protagonist (Royal, Anthony)
The vocal tick thing that Rick does towards the end of Royal is definitely a nod to Billy Joel (“give you a heart attack ack ack ack” , “give it all away gi gi gi gi”
“Chewin on a ragtime rhythm” also might be a nod to Joel who was influenced by ragtime music (see root beer rag)
Movin Out is a tribute to working class people, while Royal is a kind of tribute to a working class musician trying to make it (like a young Billy Joel)
