Step 9 of the FOO

Step 9 of the FOO

Got lucky to graduate right when the pandemic started, had a job that spring-boarded my career in tech, and had parents whom let me stay with them for the duration of the COVID lockdown, which had increased my shovel exponentially. Spent the last few years following the FOO, maxing out all the tax advantaged accounts available to me (Traditional 401k, Roth IRA, HSA, and eventually the Mega Back Door Roth) in addition to a taxable brokerage, following broad market index funds with a 70:30 domestic to international split in most of my portfolio and a small (5%) of my portfolio in individual stock picks and another 5ish% in cash equivalents. What’s shown above is my liquid NW excluding non liquid assets (so no house, watches, nor cars).

All this said, I’ve definitely been indulging in a bit of lifestyle inflation the past couple years as well and TMG sins. I don’t follow 20/3/8 for my vehicle, opting to take a 0% APR loan. Likewise I’m paying ~$1k more towards principal on my monthly mortgage payment (5.5% 15Y loan) while in my late 20s. I’ve also in the past few years collected a $20k watch collection and spend a good chunk of money on travel and eating out as well.

All this said, following the FOO has helped me a lot, and with some luck I’m hoping to get to the Chubby/FAT FIRE range in the future.
