Why is medical cannabis still so hard to discuss openly in the UK?
I’ve had a bit of a strange experience over the last few days.
I tried posting discussion-based content around UK medical cannabis awareness and somehow ended up banned from several subreddits, plus received a temporary Reddit ban in the process.
To be fair, I understand why moderators are cautious. Cannabis-related communities get hit with spam, telegram sellers, scams, fake clinics and obvious self-promotion all the time.
But it did surprise me how difficult it can be to discuss legal medical cannabis in the UK without instantly triggering suspicion.
Medical cannabis has been legal in the UK since 2018 through specialist clinics, but there still seems to be a big gap between that fact and general public understanding.
A lot of newer patients still seem confused about things like:
- what conditions may qualify
- what counts as previous treatment
- how clinics assess eligibility
- what medical records are needed
- how repeat prescriptions work
- why clinic prices vary so much
- THC vs CBD
- irradiated vs non-irradiated flower
I’m not blaming moderators because I get why the filters are strict, but it does show how much stigma and confusion still exists around the subject.
For patients already prescribed, what part of the process do you think is still explained badly?
And for newer patients, what confused you most when you first started looking into medical cannabis?
