Hi, I’m currently a Mississippi teacher looking to work at a high school in the DFW area. I have three years of classroom experience and I’m certified in both English 7–12 and Social Studies/History 7–12 in Mississippi.

I had a question about Texas certification requirements. Since my certification areas align with secondary 7–12 subjects, would I still be required to take the STR exam? I spoke with a middle school principal who mentioned I may still have to test. I understand that I may need to take the PPR EC–12 exam based on the Texas certification chart, which I’m okay with. I’m mainly trying to confirm whether STR would apply to someone pursuing secondary high school certification areas like ELAR 7–12 or Social Studies/History 7–12.
