"Worm" but like it was written by Gene Wolfe

I'm a big fan of the sheer creativity on show in the web serial Worm, but I've never quite clicked with the writing style. Meanwhile, though I have my issues with Gene, my man can write a damn sentence.

Any suggestions for things that combine the two?

Games like CultSim/Book of Hours?

Specifically, games that treat knowledge of their setting as a picture to be assembled, rather than a linear narrative to be unravelled. Ideally I want something text-heavy.

I'm particularly fond of how thoroughly the fictional elements parallel real-world occult traditions and history, and how there isn't a strict singular narrative to follow/mystery to solve. Replayability is high while you're figuring out just what the fuck is going on.

I've played:

- Sunless Sea/Skies

- Fallen London

- The Horror at Highrook

- Hollow Knight/Silksong

I've not played but heard of:

- Dredge

- The Shrouded Isle

- Citizen Sleeper

I'm not looking for things like Return of the Obra Dinn, Outer Wilds, Disco Elysium, Kentucky Route Zero, Blue Prince, Pathologic, The Seance of Blake Manor or similar 'mystery story' games. They're all incredibly good, but they're more like playable novels. I'm less interested in figuring out a singular story and more interested in decoding a world, if that makes any sense. Thank you!
