Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate some guidance because I’m a bit anxious about this situation.

I recently extended my USMLE Step 1 eligibility period, and I also paid the appointment change fee with Prometric to cancel/reschedule my exam.

After making the payment, I received the payment confirmation and already forwarded it to USMLEReg@nbme.org as instructed. I understand I need to wait about 2 business days for them to process and resend my eligibility.

However, shortly after that, I received an email from Prometric about a refund request, even though I never requested any refund. I even called them, and they told me there is no refund request in their system, so I’m confused about why I received that email.

My questions are:

  • Has this happened to anyone else?
  • Is this just an automated/system-generated email?
  • At this point, since I already paid the change fee and extended my eligibility, is it safe to just skip my original exam date and wait to reschedule?

I’d really appreciate hearing if anyone has been through something similar. Thank you 🙏
