Happy update on boyfriend’s Senegal who loves/hates me
Tink and I have been getting along great!! She’s been out for hours at a time sitting on my boyfriend’s desk and lap without her flying at me, she hasn’t hurt me or really tried in over a month. There’s been a few times where she viper strikes at me from in her cage when I scratch or pet her in a way she doesn’t like, but she does it slow enough that I pull away before her beak hits the bars. She does it just to scare me and send a message, and she doesn’t feel the need to actually get me since I’m respecting her boundaries (something her first owner never respected, and why she bites so much).
The picture is of her sitting on bf’s desk not blocked by anything letting me pet her, fully able to jump or fly at me and hurt me or my hands, and choosing not to 🥰 every time I’m in the bird room and stand up, she runs to her petting corner and puts her head down. She only wants me to pet her, she runs out of the corner if my boyfriend goes to pet her in that corner. She’s also lets me put my full arm in her cage and put things in or take them out now, which sometimes she doesn’t even let bf do. We haven’t tried getting her to step up onto my hand from her cage, but we’re getting there the more Tinkerbell and I have positive interactions outside of her cage.
She’s also being much more tolerant of our cockatiels, as when I’m sitting on the floor by the petting corner the boys want to come see what I’m doing. She used to scream or bite whenever they were within 5 feet, but now as long as I’m giving her at least some of my attention she refrains.
She and bf came into my room twice earlier today when I was having a really bad mental health episode and she very calmly let me pet her to help ground, even though she did not like being in my room (it’s cold and loud because of the AC, don’t worry she was only there for 30 seconds)
Just very glad she and I are getting along better, and I love her very much 😊
EDIT: sat and pet her on my boyfriend’s lap for over an hour while I was on a video call with friends. She hates computers but didn’t get upset and just wanted me to keep petting her 😭
