Just used 3rd row seats in 2026 Sorento Hybrid for the first time

It's been 3.5 months since I bought the Sorento and this is the first opportunity to use 3rd row seats for human occupancy. The have been folded down since we bought it.

My idea was to put the two car seats back there for our 3 year-old twin granddaughters but it was impossible to get those seats back there. Perhaps if we had tried a little longer it would have been possible but we needed to get on the road.

Their parents went back there instead and we put the car seats on the 2nd row bench seat. Dad is 6'2" and I was afraid he would have been very uncomfortable back there. Mom and dad rode in those 3rd row seats an hour and 15 minutes each way and said it was not uncomfortable at all. Perhaps a white lie, but, they did not complain.

We won't use those 3rd row seats much, but, it is good to know that, if needed, even adults can ride back there if the trip is not too long.

Time to bite the bullet and upgrade server even with crazy RAM prices

I am looking at the following:

  • Asrock Rack W880D4U motherboard with IPMI (yeah, I know, only 1Gbit NICs)
  • Intel Core 7 Ultra 270K Plus CPU
  • 32 GB non-ECC DDR5 5600 UDIMMS (over double the price of the 64GB ECC ram in my current Unraid server - ouch!) No ZFS, no VMs, 12-15 docker containers

Everything else from current server will be reused (Case, SSDs, HDDs, CPU cooler, PSU, etc.)

Total cost: ~$1200

I could probably hold out a little bit longer but it has been almost 7 years since last upgrade. I have been bitten by the upgrade bug.

Blackout of my 2026 Sorento Hybrid EX continues - Front of car

Chrome

Black

I have already blacked out the side window chrome/shark fin and the fake vent badges on the front door/fender. This phase was to black out Kia badges front and back and the chrome strip under the grille.

Right now, the chrome left on the vehicle is the lower lip under the grille, the lower rear bumper, the chrome strip under the doors and the chrome on the wheels. I will likely not black these out, but, its a possibility if I see that what I have blacked out with the Bogar Tech kits holds up well over time.

Where I would live as someone from Mountain Time Zone

I would never live in or near Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, Chicago, Minneapolis/St.Paul, Detroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, Washington D.C., Atlanta or Miami. I have traveled to all these cities and been to every state except Mississippi. I just don't prefer large cities except to visit from time to time.

This has nothing to do with politics which would result in a completely different map. America is too great to focus on what divides us or to let politics have a major say in our happiness.

Bye, bye baby shark fin and other side chrome

Before and after pics of side chrome delete on Sorento EX Hybrid. The side badge chrome delete kit from Bogar Tech covers the upper part of the badge only as that is chrome. The lower section has more of a satin nickel look. I think it looks OK, but the chrome delete looks 100% better on the windows. I really did not like that chrome shark fin in the rear side window.

Countries I have visited in which I have driven a car

Australia was my first "drive on the wrong side of the road and from the wrong side of the car" country. That was a an adventure, but, you quickly get used to it.

States I have visited for business or pleasure

I have never found a compelling reason to visit Mississippi, but, I have to do it to get to all 50. I'll probably like it once I do. I have never been to a state in which I could not find something to like.

Just applied ceramic paint coating to my Sorento Hybrid EX

Glare off the windshield is a little annoying so I took a photo from other side as well.

Next up, black out all the chrome on side windows (stupid shark fin), fake side vents on front doors, the lower lip on the grille and the KIA/Sorento emblems front and back. For now, I will leave the chrome on the lower front and rear bumpers as well as the wheels.

Ceramic coating prep process (day 1)

  1. Wash with my Sunjoe SPX3000 pressure washer using the included foam cannon and foam cannon auto wash soap (diluted about 10:1). It foams nicely
  2. Use wash mitt on entire car and then rinse with power washer and dry with large microfiber drying towel
  3. Use an iron fallout remover on entire car. It is supposed to turn purple if it encounters iron fallout or other contaminants. Not a speck of purple on the entire car. Even though the Sorento has been garaged when not in use in the two months I have owned it, I did not know how long it sat on dealer lot, so, I did the fallout remover step
  4. Clay bar entire vehicle. I used the Nano autoscrub (blue/fine) "claybar" sponge and not actual clay. It certainly did its job, but, I don't think it removed a lot of contaminants embedded in the clearcoat as I don't think there were many
  5. Very light polish with a dual-action polisher There were no visible swirls, spiderwebs or scratches in the paint, This step was not an absolute necessity given the new condition of the paint, but, why not?
  6. Let it sit in garage overnight

Ceramic coating application (day 2)

  1. Use a panel prep spray (wipe on with microfiber towel) on entire vehicle to remove any polishing oils or dust that may have settled on vehicle overnight in garage
  2. Apply Gyeon Mohs Evo Q2 ceramic coating. I bought a 50ml bottle, but, 30ml would have been sufficient for one coat. With the 50ml, I was able to do two coats on hood, front bumper, and all side panels and doors. It was not enough for second coat on roof, rear lift gate and rear bumper
  3. Let it sit in garage for at least 12 hours. By the time I drive it again very early tomorrow morning, it will have cured for 17 hours. No rain in our forecast (unfortunately for our drought) for many days.

With the second coat, it should last 4 years, 3 years with one coat.

I just ordered a Gtechniq kit with Crystal Serum Light and EXO coatings (50ml of each) for paint protection and water-beading. That and application materials cost about $250. It is supposed to last up to 5 years. The dealer wanted $1100 when I purchased the Sorento to apply a ceramic coating.

https://gtechniq.com/shop/auto/ceramic-coatings/exo-and-crystal-serum-light/

Application looks easy enough. If I don't mess it up, it should keep the new cityscape green Sorento looking nice.
