Wrongly paid due to miscommunication? (Scotland)
Hello, Basically, I had a problem (about which I wasn't aware of) with my Carer Support Payment, so, after being on UC, I started claiming Carer Allowance before it was decided that DWPs CA will be moved to Social Security Scotland as Carer Support Payment for those who are claiming CA in Scotland, so, after getting mails that my benefit will be moved from DWP to SSS, it did move, and I maybe got like 2 payments from SSS.
The thing is it did stop being paid from SSS, and instead (automatically, I guess), for the time period of whole year (since last years May) I was paid UC + Carer Element of UC, instead of CA (CSP) and DWPs deduction calculations of it.
So, I did contact SSS about this issue, did my best explaining it, given the fact of my anxiety and cognitive problems, and advisor said it will be passed on and handled by other team; then I got call for SSS saying that they managed it, and soon (next weeks) I will be paid my benefit by SSS again (as it was supposed to be). So, CSP amount is always deducted by DWP when you're on UC, and the reason to be on CA/CSP is to get Carer Element – the only problem is that I was paid by wrong benefits department, but the amount is supposed to be absolutely the same, isn't it? (for exception of those 2 times a year of extra payments on CSP, which are roughly 150£ (I can't recall), so I was only expecting to get 1 or 2 payments of those as whole year did pass).
So what and why did they pay me? I guess I was paid due to miscommunication, as I did receive my benefits payment (which is the same amount?) for that whole year, but just by wrong department? SSS advisor got me wrong when I tried to explain my issue?
Can you please verify if my understanding of this issue is true, and whether should I contact SSS to avoid being wrongly assumed as committing fraud?
The only last thing I wanted to say – we are in REAL need of this amount of money, as it can provide surgery needed for the person I care for to be done abroad (in my country), so I thought, if it's possible to manage somehow, I would be better of paying this amount as debt, as the person I care for also get benefits (UC+ADP+LCWRA), so we can manage to pay it off under a year or so.
Many thanks in advance!
