Finished my Galactic Empires box in preparation for crusade at my LGS. Space marine for scale.

Edit: it’s actually called “Planetary Empires”. Reddit won’t let me correct the post title, so it is what it is.

This was something I’d had sitting on my shelf for way too long. Pictured here is half of what’s in the box (everything is finished, but I thought it would be too repetitive to show the whole set put together). I’ve got a group of three friends who will be joining me as we battle for control of whatever planet we decide to name this.

Bit of history on this one. Planetary Empires was a 40K version of something called “Mighty Empires” - itself a sort of stripped down 2.0 version of a board game that had once been produced - that GW made back in the 2000s that was - I think - a way to track games of Epic 40K. I didn’t get into the hobby until 9th edition, so this period in Warhammer history isn’t my area of expertise, and I’m basing this off a video from Jordan Sorcery that was really informative.

With the exception of the hive city - which was a mail order exclusive - and the space ports (green lights), each of the tiles is double sided and either features ruins or some sort of natural terrain. The box comes with twelve of each of the following: plasma generators (the blue piece), manufacturoms (yellow), bunkers (red), and void shield generators (pink). Did my best to color code each piece type for ease of play. It also comes with a ton of little flags for players to mark claimed territory, but I haven’t finished them since armies aren’t finished yet and I want to make the flags match each represented force. My intention is to use an adaptation of what rules came with Planetary Empires, Path to Glory, and some house rules to generate territory and resource claims.

I managed to snag this and a complete box of Mighty Empires in an estate sale a few years back, and finally felt the motivation to give it the love it deserves. Will do up Mighty Empires next time we run a Path to Glory campaign.
