Looking for a fantasy so soul shattering I'll never recover

Hi!

I'm currently looking for a sob worthy fantasy book since I'm in the midst of planning my very own novel! I loved loved the doomed relationship in \*The Song of Achilles\*, and I'd like to find a standalone novel where the chapters are a relentless, almost infernal chain of events leading to a >!Rogue One-esque!< ending (for those who get the reference).

Dragons, goblins, fantasy, romantasy, elves... I'm particularly interested in dragons, but it's not a must. I also enjoy fantasy subgenres like steampunk, especially those dealing with a society facing rapid modernization or the aftermath of a recent war. YA and NA are welcome!

LGBTQ+ stories are also welcome (again, loved the vibe of Patroclus and Achilles).
