Bad sleep, overtraining?
Anyone able to help? I've been following my garmin plan to train for a marathon (second mara), with a goal of 3 hr 30 min. PB was 3 hr 45 min in November 2025.
Been struggling to fall asleep, and once I do, to stay asleep long enough to hear my alarm. Most days I end up getting a bit over 8 hours of sleep but it isn't good sleep. I feel slightly anxious in bed, with minor palpitations. I have been to the GP to get checked out for my bloods - iron, cortisol, and thyroid (as the main culprits) are all in check.
I am hitting about 60 to 65 km of running per week, with 1-2 rest days, and strength training (average 2 sessions a week) in between. Would have a long run on the weekend, speed workout mid-week and base runs throughout.
After workouts I am trying to take in protein asap through a shake or solid meal.
Runs are mostly in the early evenings (never really in the 3 hours before bed), or mornings on the weekends.
Have started taking magnesium glycinate which is meant to help with recovery and sleep (1150 mg twice a day). Periods are all perfect and on time. Taking thyroxine supplement as had thyroidectomy (thyroid hormones are in check per bloods). No caffeine in my usual diet either.
Am I simply training too hard and not recovering enough? This has probably been going on for more than two/three months. Really want to get my sleep back in check and feel fresh in the morning.
Thanks fam!
