Tips for DPDR
Hey everyone. This is my first time posting on reddit and I'm not a psychologist at all. These are just things that helped me so I hope it helps someone else too. (I found some of these on the internet and some by experience)
1.dpdr is a terrifying experience. Don't beat yourself up for panicking. Just know that you're not going crazy or having some other conditions.
2.most videos on yt would tell you to not think about it And it would go away. But I personally could not, not think about something that was ruining my reality. So I'd suggest stopping fighting yourself. Try to accept this is reality now. And although it's hard, you're gonna get through it and you'll be fine soon.
3.who cares if everything feels weird or you feel weird. If you stop for a moment and look around you, you'll see that people are even more weird or (annoying) than you.
4.i really got anxious and thought it's my fault that I somehow got this condition and I'd think that with all the worry I'm gonna make it worse. But it's natural to worry. And it won't get worse than (tingling in your body, vision blindedness, not hearing or hearing random things, panic attacks) so if you have these then at least you know you won't get worse and if you don't have these then great you're getting better
5.for me I would get worse when I walked into a few places. So if you feel worse somewhere that's actually helpful. When you're somewhere calmer imagine yourself being there and take deep breaths. Tell yourself you're safe.
6.i said that worrying is natural and it is. But remember to not get consumed by negative thoughts. It's easy for any physical or mental illness but trying to stay positive always helps. Maybe asking God or something you believe in would help too. Even as little as not worrying
That's all. I need to say again that I'm just speaking from experience and these might help or not at all. If they do I'd be pretty glad. I was pretty irritatable when I was dealing with this and couldn't watch youtube videos, but was also desperate to get better so I hope these help. Please be nice to yourselves and others and if this doesn't help you leave it for someone that it helps.
