Cat with Persistent Stomach Issues

Hello! As the title suggests I'm trying to get to the bottom of my poor kitty's persistent stomach/bowel issues. I'm wondering if anyone has some insight because I’d really like to get it under control for my cat’s comfort.

My cat (5 year old tabby) began to have stomach issue around 3 years ago. Loose stool, concerningly irritated butt, butt scooching, and stomachaches. His vet at the time put him on a steroid to fix it and he was on it up until around December of this year.

His stomach issues began to flare up really badly again around November 2025, I was constantly having to wash his butt because of how loose his stool was and it was getting very red and irritated and he would lick it and scooch on the carpet which would irritate it worse. Our new vet had us take him off the steroid put him on a probiotic and antibiotic temporarily and had us put him on a diet of hydrolized cat food. This worked for a while but recently we've noticed his stomachs been bothering him again, though not as severely as last time. The vet had us put him on a probiotic again this time around but his stomach issues seem to persist even on the probiotic. We’re going to give him some boiled chicken and a small amount of rice through the week because of how bothered his stomach seems to be and I plan to call his vet again.

i'm just wondering if anyone might have some advice on how to ease his discomfort and possibly any ideas on how we can get this under control. Our vet does not seem to think allergy testing would be relevant or helpful but I do wonder if he’s perhaps allergic to something or what could possibly be hurting his belly this much. I love my cat and his stomach issues seemed to pop up out of nowhere a couple years ago and it makes me sad to see him uncomfortable and in pain. If anyone has any ideas they would be very appreciated !!!
