Starting Fuel Flow Problem
Hello all,
I have a 2001 KLR650 with the ”big bore kit” apparently gets it to 685 or so. I’ve been having problems cold starting the bike. When I bought it had a cheap aftermarket carburetor on it, but the guy gave me the original CVK carburetor. It had the same problem I seem to have now. I contacted a local motorcycle repair shop and he told me to bring in the old carb to rebuild it saying it was much better quality and that would likely fix my problem. I did so and installed the CVK carb and still seem to have the same problem. Bright blue spark during testing, new fuel lines, opening the tank cap doesn’t work, replaced the petcock still vacuum operated. It will start and then run with a shot of starter fluid when cold. After warming up it starts right up after. It sits overnight and following the Clymer Manual starting procedure, I get nothing. The repair guy said he set the mixture screw to the best chance of keeping it running. I assume fuel delivery problem during start up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
