Bow tie is not nearly as big of a deal as everyone is making it out to be

I’m really perturbed by the obsession with bow tie that’s gotten progressively worse on social media and is making way too many people question perfectly fine and lovely diamonds.

In real life, not nearly as many people even know what it is or know to look for it as social media makes it seem. And then, in real life, for those who do know, it’s not nearly as big of a deal as it is to all the people who post up here on Reddit.

Some cuts have bow tie NO MATTER WHAT. That’s right - it’s actually unavoidable sometimes.

What really frustrates me the most is people who start obsessing about it on a diamond they already own. Don’t drive yourself crazy and make yourself hate something that you initially liked over some highly specific characteristic that doesn’t matter to most of the world.

If you want to obsess over it before you buy something, fine. That’s the time to do it. But please don’t go back and question yourself after the fact. Don’t be mean to a new fiancé about it, nor a spouse. Bow tie does not automatically and immediately make a diamond hideous!

Most of us are not Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, etc. We are not buying million dollar diamonds. Do not nit pick and treat a jeweler like crap because you’re expecting million dollar level perfection in your diamond. Seriously, nit picking the tiniest shadow of bow tie is insane behavior.
