Info about mds
Hello,based on my previous comments a lot of you young dentists have been texting me asking me the same questions..So i will just post it here
About me(mds omfs gdc mumbai batch 2013-2016)
1)Choose the branch which will help you earn the most and always do it from a good college
2)Fellowships after OMFS are utter useless and sooner or later you have to return to clinic..
I did fellowships in trauma,facial surgeries but again hospitals hire only Ms(general surgeon or ents) or senior professors or hods for maxillofacial cases and most of them are only done in hospitals..u cant do those things in your clinic..also expenditure to start something like that is around crores.
Thus had to give up and start my own clinic..a lot of u ask about omfs so just wanted to keep it clear..dont jump into this field because of your obsession with mbbs..Now whats the point of learning something if you cant do them
3)Most of my income is from implants,fmr and ortho
Personally if I had to make a decision i would choose the fields which bring the most money through cases
Prostho>Ortho>Endo above all
Pedodontists are also doing incredibly well as parents are now more concerned
Phd is also great if u want non clinical..Few of my friends are now working abroad and live an amazing life
4)Every college is toxic to some or the other level
Grow up doctors..life isnt easy
5)Good communication skills are extremely important..U might have done your mds from maids but at the end of the day 80% of dentistry is about converting patients..thus if you are horrible at being a people person,sorry to say but your clinic wont do well
6)Competition and market is extremely saturated..So before spending money on private and deemed seats that cost a fortune..remember that first 4-5 years you will be struggling
7)To all those who asked if Mds is important
No…At the end of the day it all matters is how much your clinic fills your pockets
The number of mds grads passing out every year is huge..so if you are a bds grad thinking of opening a clinic..hire them for consultation..Lots of pgs are looking for work so utilise them rather than jumping into the same pool after spending so much money
*****Location of your clinic is most important..You cant convince patients if no patients show up
