Good afternoon fellas

So with JCI, I had a virtual interview and they never joined, so I thought it was over. They called me today, told me they knew I wasn’t a journeyman but were still interested. He asked about my troubleshooting skills, pipe fitting/plumbing experience, and compensation, then said he was sending my information up to his guy and gave me his name.
He also mentioned a Service Man position. I talked to a chiller tech at JCI before, and he told me Service Man was how he started. It’s a 3rd-year position, and they can turn you out as a journeyman within a year. He said that’s exactly what happened with him. I’m interested, but I don’t want to get thrown to the wolves.

Hope y’all are having a weekend

I applied to JCI for a Truck-Based Journeyman Mechanic (union) position without really paying attention to the requirements. Somehow I got moved forward and have an interview Tuesday. 😂
I’m 19, not in the union, and obviously not a journeyman. Would y’all cancel the interview or take it as an opportunity to be upfront about where I’m at and see if they’d consider me for an apprentice/entry-level position?

Good morning fellas

I’m 19 finished tech school in April have my universal OSHA and other certs I can’t get into any mechanical company bro. Because I’m trying to break into a company that does chillers that’s my goal. Be a chiller tech one day. I don’t know it’s like people don’t take young guys serious in the field people say it’s a shortage but nobody’s hiring. I love HVAC but feels like I’m wasting my time right now

Good afternoon fellas

Being 19 trying to get into a mechanical company or commercial company has more cons at this point no company takes you serious.

Happy Wednesday fellas

Ok so I just got my drivers license the mechanical company was asking me to get I’m expecting them to send me an offer and trane is getting me on for a 2nd interview yet. The mechanical company will have me on chillers way faster but I have to do an apprenticeship when I literally just did tech school. But trane would start me out as an BAS guy and the Trane guy said I’ll work into service later on? What would you guys do? Because “later on” could be 4 years I’d be done with the apprenticeship by than.

Good afternoon fellas

So interview for trane is at 4pm right but it’s for BAS🥲 I thought it was rooftop units and maybe I could sneak around some chillers here and there eventually get into them full time I don’t know? Going from BAS to chiller is like a far leap or am I not thinking straight? Let me know fellas

Thanks for the advice guys something good came up

I was at work and a mechanical company that services chillers and called long story short they liked me and I told them about me being interested in central plants and chillers she said they will create a career path for me. Specifically for me but I’ll go to the union it’s a 4-5 apprenticeship program.

Trying to break into chillers not saying now maybe join a commercial company and slowly get to the chillers through a good ran commercial company.

What’s up everyone, based in Atlanta trying to find my way into chiller work centrifugal, screw, absorption, whatever gets my foot in the door. Not expecting to walk into a chiller room day one plan is to catch on with a solid commercial company first and work my way there through good mentorship.

About me: EPA 608 Universal, OSHA 10, 4+ years hands-on with installs, service calls, refrigerant recovery/charging, RTUs, split systems, air handlers. Currently a Critical Facilities Tech but looking to move company’s disorganized, understaffed, behind schedule, and the manager isn’t even a strong tech.

Finished my HVAC/R diploma in April of this year and serious about putting in work just need someone to show me the ropes on big tonnage stuff. Any Atlanta OGs know a good company for this, or have advice on how you broke in? Resume in comments/DM if anyone wants it.

I also applied to trane technologies 4 year apprenticeship.
