

First starter
So this is my first sourdough starter. I’ve bounced around from different videos to watch and basically just ended up eyeballing it. Day one(5/14) I followed someone’s recipe where it’s 1/2 cup flour (I did king Arthur’s unbleached) and 1/4 cup water. It wasn’t exact where it could be upside down without falling so I eyeballed it and added a tad more flour. Day 2 (5/15) I’m not gonna lie I did forget about it BUT I saw a TikTok saying that they do ignore it on day 2 so I figured it would be okay. Day 3 (5/16) I discarded half and did the 1/2 cup flour with 1/4 cup water and eyeballed it again. It doubled that day, I’m assuming the false rise bc it went down a bit that night. I did mix it around a bit( idk if I messed up doing that. I use a silicon spatula, I’ve heard metal isn’t good). Day 4( today 5/17) and it looks like this. Am i on the right track? Does it look normal so far. It does have a sour smell as well so I’m assuming that’s how it should be? Should I also be cleaning up the sides more or does that not matter? I did switch to a new clean jar when I did the discard!
