Adding material to cast aluminium alloy
I need to add material to this rim for a project and I don’t know who to ask.
Goal is to add material flush with the face of the rim up untill the 30mm mark (in pic) material will be 20mm thick probably 7075 billet aluminium. (open to other ideas that may be better)
I do NOT want to weld in new material as this alloy is a fricken pain in the butt to weld to and I want to ensure reliability.
Playing with ideas atm of making a giant keensert style thing. Getting it milled down and then chucking a giant thread on it, then screwing in new billet peice with matching threads and mechanically locking it in.
Also thinking about doing a press fit/ precision interference sorta thing then locking that in mechanically
Just looking for a permanent way to add this new material
Tell me if I am being an idiot and a way easier way is staring me in the face, or if there is just any better ways in general. If it makes more sense I’d be more than happy to change material being added but I don’t know what would be better.
Rim is cast aluminium alloy
Much appreciated
