So… I’m a black woman, born and raised in a Christian household, I mean, I was at the church every other day leading bible studies, singing in the choir, praise team, teen leadership team, my best friend was the pastors daughter. Jesus and the church was my life and I was living in this little Jesus bubble… that changed until my rose colored glasses of reality was broken right when I stepped out in the real world 🤣😭

I found myself so naive to life around me. I would always go into everything I did with pure intentions and light just for it to almost be destroyed.

Recently though… I just find that the church and Christianity in and of itself leaves me confused, not comforted, and has me searching for more answers and clarity.

In my digging, I came across the gnostic belief, that we are really from a supreme source, and that this world is just a recycle ground for souls. A trap… which honestly resonated with me more than what is taught in church. I recently have felt like it’s easy to believe that someone is going to come at the end of our life to “save us”… but I honestly feel like that is a cheap cop-out rather than sitting with the uncomfortable truth that maybe no one is coming to save us, but we must do the work to save our selves in a way, and come to a higher sense of being.

Anyway, all that to say, I have been reading the Book of Thomas, and I see some scriptures that were taken from this book and put into the Bible so many people believe in. But… I want to know more, but I don’t know where to start. Also, if you are a black person reading this, how does Gnosticism connect with our ancestors and spirituality that way? Are they related? Are they separate? Is hoodoo like another tool we as Black American people to use in this life to get us closer to where we are actually from? I don’t know. I just have so many questions and I don’t know where to start.

I’m open to hearing different thoughts, opinions, and what your observations are. I’m just really starting to realize that Christianity specifically is not what is says it is and there are a lot of cracks in the different stories of the Bible.
