Every time I mention being on night shift to someone they frown in sympathy like it is a terrible burden but I genuinely prefer working nights. The lower call volume means that I get to spend more time and attention on each individual caller and I get actual breathing room between calls. Yeah, a lot of times something serious pops off but even then there’s a lot less noise to get in the way than there is on days.

Nightshift dispatchers are like the only group of dispatchers at my agency that are consistently having a chill time. We also don’t have a bunch of admin hanging around and stressing people in the same way as during days.

I’m keeping my schedule on my days off too and it’s honestly been pretty tight. I get to work out without other people in the gym, I get to do my shopping early morning before I go to bed. I’m gonna save money on sunscreen this summer probably.

So if you’re about to go on night shift for the first time or wary of doing this job because of the 24 hour nature: yes there are drawbacks, but you also might find that being a vampire suits you just fine, like I did.

I originally put this blanket over the chair to air dry a bit but it’s now a permanent fixture because he’s obsessed with it
