So I’m a High School Special Education teacher. I have a few students who literally cut class and do zero work all day. Literally a 50 average in all classes since they don’t give zeros. One kid is literally allowed to just sit in the hall all class because he flips out if he has to stay in the room. I’ve seen this go on all year.

I want to put them in an alternative setting like C because as things stand right now, they are getting zero education, surely aren’t getting their SDI and that is a problem. I have tried to get them placed all year but the district says their alternative placement is full. That’s not a legit answer. These kids are being failed and no one seems to be doing anything about it. Should I put them in a C setting in their IEP and let the chips fall where they must? Is cutting class and not accessing their SDI reason enough to justify it? Would the district just have to figure it out?
